The Ministry of Economy announced this Wednesday (17), a 10% reduction in the rate of import tax levied on electronics, machinery and equipment. According to the government, the measure that will come into effect this week, affects goods used by all sectors of the Brazilian economy and covers 1,495 codes of the Common Nomenclature of Mercosur (NCM). Currently, import tariffs range from 0 to 16%. With the approved reduction: - A machine currently levied at 10% import tax will now have a 9% rate; - An electronic whose importation requires payment of 16% of the tax, will increase to 14.4%. In addition, in the case of products which are currently subject to an import tax of 2%, the rate will be zero. The objective is to increase productivity not only in these sectors, but in the entire economy, also benefiting Brazilian consumers, in imports from cell phones and computers to medical equipment. Another benefit will be the reduction of logistics and civil construction costs, by reducing the rates for cranes, excavators, forklifts, locomotives, containers, among other items.
